Wellington boys end season with 67-46 loss to Mulvane

first_imgMulvane 67 Wellington 46Mulvane 16 17 21  13 — 67Wellington 15 11 11 9 — 46Scoring: Mulvane – Daleney 2, Lampe 28, Dempsey 21, Price 10, Brown 2, Daramus 2, Baker. Total 16 (6) 17-18 67. Wellington – Gilmore 2, Phelps 7, Reichenberger 5, Baker 8, Nance 16, Daugherty 8. Total 13 (2) 14-19 46. by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The great thing about post season basketball is also the aggravating thing about post season. It comes down to one night. And if it isn’t your night… it’s over. The Wellington boys basketball team season came to an unceremonious end with a 67-46 sub-state loss to Mulvane in Rose Hill. The Wildcats had the hot hand. Wellington did not. Mulvane opened with a 16-15 first quarter advantage and expanded the lead to 33-26 at the half. Then the Wildcats went off on a 21-11 run in the third en route to a 67-46 victory. Mulvane’s Guner Lampe was red hot tonight scoring 28 points for the Wildcats including 17 in the second half. Collin Dempsey had 21.The Cats was outstanding at the free throw line going 17-of-18 for the game.Wellington seemed snake bit at times especially in the second half – making untimely unforced turnovers.Trevor Nance led the Crusaders with 16 points. It most certainly was an up and down season for the Crusaders especially down the stretch. Wellington won six games in a row and won the Chaparral Roadrunner Classic for the first time in years in an outstanding basketball game against Kingman.Wellington would go on to win three more games including these same Wildcats 60-43 at their place. But when the winning streak came to an end it really came to an end. Wellington would lose its final six games and ended the season at 9-12. Close Forgot password? Shazam App Gets Full Artist Playlists, if You Live in Europe

first_img9 Books That Make Perfect Gifts for Industry Ex… Related Posts 4 Keys to a Kid-Safe App Shazam, the magic mobile app that identifies music playing in the room you’re in, has added a new option for interacting with a song it’s identified: listen in Spotify. Spotify, a killer desktop and mobile music app that’s not yet available but to a few thousand testers in the United States, is widely loved in Europe. It’s a great way to discover new music, listen to an artist’s full or nearly full body of work and just generally get your groove on. I’m lucky to be listening to the band Bassnectar on Spotify as I write this post. I used Shazam earlier tonight to identify several songs, however, and did not have the option to fire those artists up in Spotify. I wish I could have. Along with creating a Pandora or Last.fm channel based on an identified artist, watching that artist’s YouTube videos, searching for their nearby tour dates and buying their music by MP3 – Spotify subscribers are now going to have a great new way to start listening to new music they discover on Shazam. The advantage of using Spotify, instead of Pandora or Last.fm, is that Spotify users can easily listen to entire albums and navigate among related artists much more freely than on most other services.According to the Spotify blog, this feature is only available to Spotify Premium subscribers at launch, but will be made available to free account holders soon. If you live in the United States and have not been fortunate enough to get one of relatively few Spotify preview accounts, prior to what everyone hopes are pending US licensing agreements with the major record labels here – well, don’t hold your breath. ReadWriteWeb cannot be held responsible if you burst while waiting. As a happy new subscriber to the similar service Rdio, I hope that Shazam will integrate listening in Rdio as well.A seamless ability to listen to entire albums of whatever musician or group is playing on the speakers in a room you’re in, with just a click or two and some awesome music identification technology, is truly incredible. Thank goodness for bandwidth, smartphones and streaming mobile music. Financial Preparation for the Holidays

first_imgJennifer Hunter, Ph.D., University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension ServiceWhen the leaves continue to fall and the nightly temperature drops, we know that the holiday season will soon be upon us. This season is often a special time for families as loved ones gather near and far to celebrate. However, holiday expenses can sometimes threaten the joy that we experience during this season. Getting an early start will reduce holiday stress and your after-holiday bills, often known as the holiday financial hangover. Before the holiday season moves into high gear, take the time to get prepared. Review yourGrafton Street Christmas Shopping Dublin by Ben and Kaz Askinscurrent financial situation and determine a holiday spending limit that works for your family budget. To make certain you are not tempted to increase that limit as the season progresses, develop a budget for gift-giving, food, travel and entertainment expenses. Additional expenses that are often left out of a holiday budget include gasoline, babysitting fees, and eating out more often. As you work on the budget, start by making a list of everyone you plan to give a gift, including children, loved ones, teachers, babysitters, hair stylists, etc. Identify a realistic spending limit and a possible gift for each person on your list. It is important that you do not feel pressured to give anyone a gift. If your finances are right this year, consider a hand-written note expressing thanks or appreciation. Continue to work your way through your holiday budget by estimating other anticipated expenses. If you have receipts or credit card statements from last year, you may be able to use them as a guide in developing a realistic estimate for travel, entertainment, and food expenses. As you are preparing for your budget for the upcoming holidays, think about how you will pay for holiday shopping and expenses. You are less likely to overspend if you pay with cash, as opposed to using a credit card. If you are using cash, once all of your cash is gone, you are finished with your holiday shopping. Another option to consider is that many stores now offer store layaway plans. If you decide to use store layaway options, be certain to check their return policy and keep track of all payments.Plan holiday shopping trips ahead of time, review store ads, and know exactly who and what you are shopping for prior to entering the store. Impromptu shopping trips and wandering around a store looking for gift ideas can lead to impulsive purchases, which were not part of your original budget. Do your window-shopping at home online, or with catalogs so that you know exactly what you want when you are at the store. Finally, remember that holiday sales can be tempting, so once you are in the store, stick with your original budget.Contact Jennifer at [email protected]last_img read more

Assessing the Value of Specific Sales Activities

first_img Essential Reading! Get my 2nd book: The Lost Art of Closing “In The Lost Art of Closing, Anthony proves that the final commitment can actually be one of the easiest parts of the sales process—if you’ve set it up properly with other commitments that have to happen long before the close. The key is to lead customers through a series of necessary steps designed to prevent a purchase stall.” Buy Now It is one thing to be busy and quite another to be productive. These two ideas are mostly diametrically opposed. When you are busy, you are working on many things, often things with different and disjointed outcomes. The many and varied things that make you busy are not often what moves the needle when it comes to producing big outcomes. When you are productive, you focus on producing a single outcome—and one that will produce a real impact. The implications of this idea are that some activities are worth far more than others, and productivity is not a measurement of how much work you do but instead a quantifying of progress made towards something that makes produces an important result.Do More of ThisOpportunity Creation: If you are in sales, then creating opportunities is one of the highest value activities in which you might invest your time and energy. Creating new opportunities, be them in your existing clients or your prospects, is a prerequisite for winning new business. Prospecting, in all its many forms, is the activity that leads to opportunities.Nurturing Relationships: One of the activities that enables opportunity creation is the nurturing of the relationships in such a way—and over a period of time—that it is easy and natural for the prospects you are pursuing to engage with you. You need to be known as a value creator and someone who can help your dream client move their business forward.Neither of these two activities produces results right away, nor do they tend create any sense of urgency.Sales Calls – Meetings: There are not too many activities in which you might invest your time that exceed the value of face-to-face sales calls (or video face to video face, or ear-to-ear, if that is your approach). The progress you make towards creating and winning opportunities occurs during sales calls (an idea that sounds simple, but is of-ten ignored, with many believing email can accomplish more than the evidence shows to be true). There are activities that are necessary and sometimes even important that might keep you busy without producing or even contributing to the results for which you are being measured, judged, and compensated.Do Less of ThisEmail: As it goes for time wasters, email reigns supreme as the world dominating and undefeated champion. Most of what shows up in your inbox is “for your information,” a request for information, or a notification of some change to something. While it’s true that there are also communications from your clients and your prospects, the number of time wasters vastly outnumbers important client communications. Email will keep you busy, if you let it.Transactions, Not Outcomes: In sales, you are accountable for the outcomes you sell your clients. If you promised them a certain result, you must ensure they produce that result. You also have other results that you never explicitly promised, but that are inferred. You didn’t promise a correct invoice, but you owe your client a proper bill, which does not in any way indicate that you should retype that invoice. You also never said anything about tracking down missing order, even though it is to be expected that someone on your team should help your client find their orders. You are responsible for making sure these things happen, but you are not responsible for actually doing this work.If you are in your inbox and chasing down lost orders, who is creating opportunities, nurturing your future clients, and making sales calls? Surely not your operations, customer service, or accounting departments. While important, these activities make little to impact on your results. If you are not busy and still not productive, then I have a strong—and well-informed opinion—as to why this may be true.Severely Limit ThisThe Internet and the Small Screen of Infinite Distractions: In the entire history of human beings, there has never been anything as distracting as the Internet, least of all anything that has been enabled by a tiny device with more power over human behavior than Kings and Governments. It chimes, your head bows in obedience to its command. It keeps you busy while eliminating any chance to be productive. No matter what you decide to do, if you want to produce results, you have to invest a disproportionate amount of time and energy in those few things that produce your most important desired outcomes, stripping time and energy from things that, while keeping you busy, do nothing to move you closer to your goals.last_img read more
