Greg Abbott has appointed new Ector County Judge Debi Hays to the Commission on State Emergency Communications for terms through to 2023.The commission is charged with administering the state’s 9-1-1 service program and the statewide poison control program, detailed a Tuesday release from Abbott’s office.Hays was sworn into her position as county judge just Monday at a commissioners’ court meeting, after former county judge Ron Eckert resigned from the post.Hays, a businesswoman of Odessa, won the Republican primary for the post in March, and immediately became the de facto next county judge as no Democratic challenged to run in November.Cathy Skurow, mayor of Portland, Texas, was also named to the communications commission per Abbott’s release. Truck Driver Avoids Charges in Accident that Killed Toddler

first_imgTragedy struck a Greenacres family Thursday night, as their toddler lost her life in a roadway.According to officials with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, a truck accidentally hit and pinned 3-year-old Violet Juarez under the vehicle just after 6 p.m.The accident report explains that just before the accident occurred, the 2020 Dodge Ram 1500’s driver had been parked in the 4700 block of Gulfstream Rd., in order to let out his passengers.He then turned south on the street, in order to make a U-turn.Officials say that’s when Juarez darted out into the truck’s path.The report goes on to say that the driver cooperated afterward, and the child was flown to one hospital before being taken by Trauma Hawk to another.However, she was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. that night at Delray Medical Center.The driver is not facing charges, as officials have determined he is not at fault.last_img read more
