AEK Signs Hugo Almeida!

The 31-year old signed a 2-year contract with the Kitrinomavri as a “free-agent.”AEK has been in search of a striker over the transfer season for their front line and the search comes to an end after Hugo Almeida signed a 2-year contract with the Kitrinomavri. Rumors began yesterday that AEK has been in talks with Hugo Almeida and today the signing was confirmed. Almeida arrived in Greece this morning and passed medical tests before signing his new deal.Almeida is a well-known name in European football. Almeida began his career at FC Porto before moving to Germany for Werder Bremen. From 2006-2011, Almeida scored 63 goals in 173 appearances with the German side. In 2011 he moved to Turkey for Besiktas where he had 4 good seasons, scoring 47 goals in 109 appearances. Aleida’s performance has weakened while playing for Cesena, Kuban, Anzhi, and Hannover.Throughout his career he has won many titles including: Portuguese League with FC Porto (2004, 2006), Portuguese Cup with FC Porto (2006), German Cup with Werder Bremen (2009), Turkish Cup with Besiktas (2011), and he is a UEFA Cup Finalist with Werder Bremen in 2009. Almeida has 68 appearances with 21 goals in UEFA Competitions.Additionally, the striker has played with all of Portugal’s National Teams. He was apart of the men’s team that competed at UEFA Euro 2008, 2012 and the FIA World Cup in 2010 and 2014. He has scored 19 goals in 57 appearances with the men’s national Team.Almeida will wear #33 next season. As far as his place in the upcoming UEFA Europa League Qualifying matches against Saint Etienne, AEK will have plenty of time to add his name to the UEFA roster, which is due by Friday.After the signing, Almeida stated “I am at yet another big club in my career. I did not have to ask anyone about AEK, the name and the history of the club speaks for itself.
