Rep Iden joins Michigan House in approving more money for road repairs

Brandt Iden of Oshtemo today voted to approve legislation that pumps an additional $175 million into road repairs across Michigan as early as this summer.“We have experienced multiple thaws and freezes this winter and because of that, the roads have taken a toll,” Iden said. “We have the opportunity to immediately increase our repair efforts and give all municipalities additional funding to make sure the quality of our roads improves.”The money included in the bill approved today comes in addition to previous changes that provide more funding for road and bridge projects across the state.In addition to state and county projects, the new bill includes money for cities and villages throughout Michigan. Early estimates indicate the city of Portage would receive $382,411, the city of Schoolcraft would receive $13,777 and the village of Vicksburg $24,570.The money is left over from a previous state government budget cycle and is already available, meaning no budget cuts or additional fees or taxes are required for the investment.House Bill 4321 now advances to the Senate for further consideration.
