Doc Rivers wants fellow coaches to vote Tobias Harris for All-Stars

first_img What the Clippers are saying the day after Luka Doncic’s game-winner tied series, 2-2 “We have a lot of good players, and obviously … Luc would be our best defender, him and Avery (Bradley),” Rivers said. “And we envisioned, especially down the stretch of games, single possessions with those two on the floor. We haven’t been able to do that, but we have so many guys who know they can play, that our guys just keeping playing.”They’ve also been making due offensively as much as possible with Gallinari sidelined, as Rivers has moved Tobias Harris from small forward to power forward without issue.Harris is averaging 23.6 points per game in Gallinari’s absence, but as a team, the Clippers are averaging 105.6 points in their past six games, down from the 115.2 points they were putting up before.“It’s an easy slide moving Tobias to the 4, it’s probably his natural position anyway,” Rivers said. “But  you look at our numbers, we clearly miss Gal a little bit.”COMMUNITY COURTSWith screens above reading “Basketball Saves Lives” during a quick pregame ceremony, the Clippers recognized about 20 representatives from Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks who operate the Clippers Community Courts.Funded by a donation from Steve and Connie Ballmer to the department of Recreation and Parks Foundation, the Clippers Community Court project is in the process of renovating nearly 350 public basketball courts across the city over the next three years. Since it started in October, 117 courts have been renovated, according to the Clippers.About 600 employees, center users and friends of the Rec and Parks department were at Sunday’s game. Kristaps Porzingis ruled out as Clippers, Mavericks set for Game 5; Follow for game updates Harris scored 18 points and reiterated that he’d appreciate the opportunity to appear in the showcase game, which will be Feb. 17 in Charlotte, but added that it isn’t his focus.“I said at the beginning of the season a lot would be predicated on us as a team winning,” he said. “And I think we’ve done a great job of that, so we’ll see what happens. God willing, it’ll go accordingly and I’ll be extremely grateful for it, so I’m just focused on our team and helping our group win.”Rivers believes Harris is deserving, but he said he isn’t confident his colleagues will vote accordingly. So he suggested coaches’ votes be made public, like the captains’ selections will be when Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James make their starter picks in a nationally televised draft for the first time.“Last year they were cowards and this year they’re going to do it live,” Rivers joked. “The next step is the coaches have to reveal their vote. I’m serious. Because I have too many coaches tell me they voted for my guys and if that was true, they would be on the team. Last year, for Lou (Williams), I think 13 coaches said, ‘I’m definitely voting for him.’ And if that was true, Lou would’ve been on the team!”MISSING PIECES Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error Clippers hope they can play to their capabilities, quell Mavericks’ momentum center_img PreviousLos Angeles Clippers’ Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, center, is defended by Sacramento Kings’ Justin Jackson, left, and Harry Giles (20) during the first half of an NBA basketball game Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, in Los Angeles. If we were five games under .500 and he he played the same way, then it’s a tough case to make, but the way he’s played, on a winning team, in the West, the case is already made. Sanchez on a brace as Arsenal edge out Palace

first_imgJames Tomkins’s 89th minute header — Andros Townsend had drawn them level at 1-1 early in the second-half before Sanchez’s scoring burst — ensured a nervy finish, but the Gunners deserved to run out winners and end Palace’s eight-game unbeaten run.Arsenal drew level with fourth-placed north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur but with a worse goal difference whilst Palace remain firmly embroiled in a battle against relegation just a point above the bottom three.Arsenal edge out Crystal Palace thanks to Sanchez brace. Photo/COURTESYPalace were able to apply some pressure during the opening stages, the closest they came to testing Petr Cech came when Yohan Cabaye shot narrowly wide from 20 yards out.Wenger’s side gradually took charge and they forced the breakthrough in the 24th minute when Palace’s failure to clear Mesut Ozil’s free-kick eventually led to Mustafi’s opening goal. The ball was played back towards the right side of the area where Alexandre Lacazette drew a good save from Julian Speroni only for the ball to fall to Mustafi who finished neatly with a first time shot.Six minutes later, Arsenal would have been two up but for Speroni who produced an excellent, one-handed reaction save after Ozil had latched onto Sanchez’s superbly weighted through ball.Wilfried Zaha was Palace’s most threatening player throughout the first half with the Ivorian maintaining the form that has seen him linked with a number of top clubs this season.Wilfried Zaha celebrating after scoring equaliser against Arsenal. Photo/COURTESYIt also made the winger a target for some robust treatment with Callum Chambers booked for pulling him back.Zaha made the point he believed he deserved more protection too vigorously to referee Michael Oliver as they left the pitch at half time and could have been sent off after sarcastically reacting to the match official’s decision to show him a yellow card.Zaha though reacted in a more positive way after the restart as he eased his way past Chambers before pulling the ball back towards Townsend who struck a first time shot past Cech from near the penalty spot.At that point Palace were in the ascendancy but Sanchez’s quick double soon killed off the home side’s hopes. The first came after Chambers played a deep ball into the home penalty area that was controlled by Sanchez before the Chile international exchanged passes with Lacazette and drilled the ball past Speroni. Then four minutes later, the forward had his second after collecting Wilshere’s long ball over the top with his first touch and finishing with his second.Tomkins late header from a corner came too late for the home side.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Arsenal’s striker Alexis Sanchez celebrates after scoring their third goal during the English Premier League football match against Crystal Palace December 28, 2017© AFP Ben STANSALLLONDON, United Kigdom, Dec 29 – Alexis Sanchez scored twice in four second half minutes to give Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger victory on the night he equalled Alex Ferguson’s Premier League record of matches in charge with a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace.Sanchez’s brace — the second a beauty from Jack Wilshere’s superb pass — added to Shkodran Mustafi’s first ever away goal for the Gunners was just enough to get them past the Eagles in Wenger’s 810th Premier League game as a manager.last_img read more
